Out of all of the videos, the one that resonated the most with me is the sixth video. This showed Anna Deavere Smith's performance of Gavin Cato's father. Between her weird accent and how she would constantly look down as she talked, you could tell that she was truamatized by the death of Gavin. At first the accent seems strange but over the course of the video it just seems to fit the character very well. It shows that they already have to deal with the hardships of being an immigrant, but now they are having to deal with the death of their son. The look, sound, and body language from Anna's character really shows the struggles they have faced over the years, and with the death of Gavin, this struggle seems to turned into determination to get justice for their son. Once the father seems like he gains a back bone, he goes from fear and confusion of the Jewish people to courageous and uncaring about what the Jewish people could do to both him and the case. He wants the real story to be told. This powerful ending message from the father transitions with a candle lit cross on the ground, that fades in with the candles coming straight down the fathers face as he fades out. This could be showing the father has two sides, since one side has more light than the other. One could represent the grieving and emotional side while the other could be his vengeance. Overall this was a powerful monologue and a great performance from Anna Deavere Smith.
